Welcome to the 12 DIYs of Christmas! Today is the 12th December which means I am sharing my 12th and final Christmas DIY with you.
Christmas can be a seriously expensive time of year and so I will be sharing DIY Christmas gift ideas as well as some thrifty decor ideas to help you to stay on budget this December.
On the 12th DIY of Christmas Thrifty Londoner sent to me…
A POM POM GARLAND
You will need:
- A glass
First of all, draw out two circles on the cardboard using the glass as a template. Then place the coin into the center of one of the circles, and draw around this.
After that, draw two lines to the outside of the circle as shown in the photo above. Cut out one of the circles, and then use this as a template to cut out the second circle so that you have two identical pieces of cardboard.
Place the two cardboard pieces together, and begin to wrap the wool around the cardboard.
Once the wool is thickly covering the cardboard, snip the strand of wool and then hold the circle firmly in the middle.
Get a pair of small scissors (I am using nail scissors here but sewing scissors would be much better) and place them between the two pieces of cardboard and begin cutting the wool. Make sure that all of the strands of wool remain in place- continue to hold the circle in the center.
Cut a length of wool and then tie it between the two pieces of cardboard to secure all of the strands of wool. Tie it really tightly and then double knot it to secure the pom pom.
You have yourself a pom pom! Use your fingers to fluff up the wool and then trim any uneven strands using a pair of scissors.
You could either make singular pom poms and use these as tree decorations or as a cute gift topper. If you want to create a garland like I have done, you can do this by taking a darning needle and a length of wool, and threading each pom pom onto this length of wool.
