Hi, and welcome to Thrifty Londoner!
I’m Laura and I am passionate about finance, and believe that anyone can get to a point of financial wellness- even whilst living in the most expensive city in the country!
Are you fed up of watching other people buy houses, go on expensive holidays and pay off their credit cards? Maybe you’re living pay cheque to pay cheque and want to stop that cycle. Or perhaps you even want to start earning money on the side and learn how to start your own business.
My friends, Thrifty Londoner is for you!
I’ve been living in London and learning to manage my money better since 2016. In that time I have learnt a LOT. Including turning my side hustles into thriving businesses, and finding the budgeting method that meant I was able to save 50% of my income EVERY MONTH.
But I’ve also learnt how not to do things…
I’ve learnt a lot about things that sounds great, but in theory take up a lot of time and have very little reward (hello (nearly all) survey websites!)
I’ve learnt not to compare myself to others- remember, someone else’s progress does not make your own progress any less valid!
I’ve also learnt to focus on my goals. Keeping your goals in sight at all times, and reminding yourself of why you are doing what you’re doing keeps you on track and accountable.
Who Is Thrifty Londoner For?
Thrifty Londoner is for anyone who wants to take control of their money, feel financially confident, and create new money habits. It’s also for any one living in London who wants to live their best life in the capital, without having to spend the earth.
A bit about me…
I became a Londoner in September 2016, I had been basking in the privilege of living at home for a year after university, and once I moved to London- reality hit. With a low income (by London standards!) and rent and bills totalling more than half my salary, I realised that I was going to have to put myself onto a strict budget to keep myself from spiralling into debt.
I started this blog to share the money making, saving, and budgeting schemes that I have learned along the way. One of the best ways I have found to save money is by doing free things in London, and heading to many of London’s fantastic charity shops to get an affordable fashion fix.
